Bearbot: Bear That Controls Your Smart Home

If popular culture has taught us anything about bears, it’s that they spend all day stealing peoples’ picnic baskets and riding around on bicycles. Bearbot is not a robot that does either of those things. Bearbot is super cute. That’s really the bottom line for this growing Indiegogo project designed to make smart home control a lot more fun and customizable. Beyond the cuteness, this little bear has infrared, Bluetooth, radio, and ZigBee sensors that are designed to work with pretty much any smart home device, from your HVAC to your TV. You “tame” the bear with a smartphone app that allows you to create commands and choose which sensor the bear will listen with for that particular command. But what’s really unique is the different ways that you can command it. Even though he can’t ride a bike, Bearbot is a bit like a well-trained circus bear. He’s an attentive little fellow that waits patiently for you to issue instructions with your hands. Just gesture in front of his face and he’ll perform an action. Bearbot can adjust your thermostat, raise and lower your blinds, dim the lights, or fire up a movie on your home theater and hands-free control means this little bear won’t turn into a veritable petri dish like your smartphone.
