Toyota Reportedly Adding Android Auto in Its Car

Toyota may finally relent and allow Android Auto to work in its cars, according to Bloomberg. An official announcement reportedly could come as soon as next month.  A spokesperson for Toyota did comment on the story, though, saying that the company is aware that there is high demand for Android Auto and that they are considering “direct connection” with the in-car entertainment feature but that there isn’t anything else to add at this time. So while Toyota is still considering it, this report indicates that the decision is ready to be announced sometime next month. Back in April it was reported that at least one of the reasons Toyota was avoiding Android Auto was due to security concerns, with reports at the time saying Google collected a wide range of data about a driver and the automobile. However, Google denied those claims at the time. Android Auto is compatible with nearly 50 different car brands around the globe, which is slightly behind the 60 or so that Apple has made deals with. Google has been working hard to push automakers in a different direction, though — it will soon provide Volvo with an entire Android-powered infotainment operating system, and recently announced plans to do the same for the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance.
